Wild animals play a vital
role in maintaining the health of ecosystems, and are a key focus of biodiversity
conservation. One of the challenges facing wildlife today is their exploitation
and commodification on an enormous scale. The global wildlife trade is a
threat to species conservation and animal welfare. A key driver is the demand
for traditional medicine containing wild animal parts and derivatives.
Human health is
intrinsically linked to animal health and the health of the environment.
Breeding and commercial use of wild animals pose major biosecurity risks and
continue to threaten biodiversity conservation. Breeding wild animals as
medicine is not a tradition, nor is it in line with the trend of modernization
of traditional medicine.
Wild animals belong
in the wild and should not be used as health care products or medicine. We
believe that the development of social civilization and technology will provide
solutions to reduce and eliminate wild animals as medicine. Through the
Wildlife-friendly Medicine Network, we will take action to build the future for
wildlife-friendly medicine.
